Infectious Disease Society of Pakistan organized a 20 hour “Update on Infectious Disease for the Practising Clinician "in Karachi June 18-20, and June 25-28, 2007. Physicians who wished to improve upon their knowledge and clinical skills in diagnosis and management of commonly seen infectious diseases attended. The topics were carefully selected to cover a broad spectrum of infections which are seen in the usual clinical practice in Pakistan. The speakers included clinicians and microbiologists with wide experience and expertise in their respective fields. Emphasis was placed on newer strategies for the prevention, recognition, diagnosis and management of important syndromes in infectious diseases.
Each lecture was of 45 minutes duration with 15 minutes for discussion. Handouts were distributed for each lecture. A certificate of attendance was given to those present for at least 75% of the lectures.
At least 50 delegates registered. Attendance was punctual and regular even on the days that Karachi suffered major rainstorms.
Feed backs from delegates were positive, describing the course as “excellent”, “need more”, “good variety of speakers with individual styles”. Several delegates promptly took membership of IDSP.
IDSP is motivated to run ID courses later in the year. Perhaps organizers in other cities could emulate.
