The field of "infection control" deals with prevention of nosocomial infections in the hospital. Its scope encompasses precautions to prevent spread of organisms within the hospital environment as well as prevention of specific infections pertaining to interventions (such as ventilator associated pneumonia, nosocomial urinary tract infections, catheter related blood stream infections and surgical site infections).
